At Risk Early Intervention Program

The District Attorney's Office, in cooperation with the Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary Parish School Boards implemented an early intervention program for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Third Grade. The purpose of the program is to provide services to "at-risk" students in an effort to help them be more successful in school and alleviate behavior problems in the future.

This program is also designed to require parental responsibility in those "at risk" cases. The program will assist teachers and principals with legal issues when dealing with children and parents.

Family Service Managers have been hired for certain at-risk schools in each of the three parishes. These managers receive referrals, review student data and develop a comprehensive plan of intervention. They also follow-up with all parties to see that needed services are provided.

Reports on progress are made to the school principal and to the Assistant District Attorney overseeing the program.
